Basic Information about the Earth You Needs to Know

Planets of Solar System:

There are eight planets in the solar system among which the Earth is one.

Bulkiness of the Earth in the Solar System:

Earth is one of the planets of the Solar System. The earth is at the third largest place from the sun and is the fifth largest in the entire solar system. Just slightly larger than the Venus, which is nearby it, Earth is the largest planet on earth.

Life Existing Planet:

Our home planet is the only planet in our solar system known to support life.

Name History of the Earth:

The name Earth is at least a thousand years old. All the planets, except the Earth, are named after Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. However, the word Earth is an English / German word, which simply means ground or base.

Size and magnitude of the Earth:

At an altitude of 3,959 miles (6,371 kilometers), Earth is the largest planet among the tellurian planets.

Orbit and rotation:

As the Earth orbits, it completes one rotation around the sun every 23.9 hours. It takes 365.25 days to complete a single trip around the sun. That extra quarter of the day poses a challenge to our calendar system, which counts one year as 365 days except the leap year.

Composition or Formation of the Earth:

While the solar system is stabilizing in its current state some 4.5 billion years ago, the Earth is building on the earth’s magnetic field, which draws the surrounding gas and dust into a solar system. Like other tellurian planets , the Earth also has a central core, a rocky outcrop, and a solid crust.

Structure of the Earth:

Layers of the Earth:

The earth is made up of four main layers, beginning with the inner core of the planet, which is covered with an outer layer, a mantle and crust.

Inner Core of the Earth:

The inner core is a solid surface made of steel and nickel metal about 759 miles (1,221 kilometers) in distance. When the temperature reaches 9,800 degrees Fahrenheit (5,400 degrees Celsius). Surrounded by the inner core inside and outside. This layer is about 1,400 miles (2,300 km), made of iron and nickel.

Between the outer spine and the crust is a cloth, a thick layer. This hot and dense mixture of molten rock is about Eighteen Hundred Miles which is 2,900 kilometers and has a caramel resemblance.

Outer Core of the Earth:

The outer layer, the Earth’s crust, travels about 12 miles (30 km) in depth to the earth. At the bottom of the ocean, the crust is slender and extends about 3 miles (5 km) from the bottom of the ocean to the surface.

The atmosphere:

Earth has an atmosphere which is the envelope of gases surrounding the Earth.

Composition of the Atmosphere:

Gases contained in the Atmosphere and their percentage as follows:

Gases Percentage
Nitrogen 78%
Oxygen 21%
Carbon dioxide Less than 1%
Argon Less than 1%
Neon Less than 1%

The atmosphere, in turn, contributes to the world’s long-term climate and short-term local climate and shields us from many of the harmful rays like UV (Ultra Violet) or IR (Infra Red) rays of the sun.
